This issue can occur after a user logs in to his or her AOL account at http://webmail.aol.com/ with new messages present in the mailbox. Follow this procedure to workaround the issue.
NOTE: This procedure will need to be followed every time you wish to access AOL Web mail.
Open the Internet Explorer 7 software.
Open the Internet Explorer 7 software.
1. In the Internet Explorer window, on the toolbar, click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
2. In the Internet Options window, click the Security tab.
3.On the Security tab, in the Security level for this zone section, click to remove the check from the box next to Enable Protected Mode.
4. In the Internet Options window, click the OK button.
5. In the Internet Explorer window, click the X in the upper-right corner to close the window.
6. Re-open the Internet Explorer 7 software.
7. Go to the http://webmail.aol.com Web site and sign in with the appropriate AOL user name and password.

4. In the Internet Options window, click the OK button.
5. In the Internet Explorer window, click the X in the upper-right corner to close the window.
6. Re-open the Internet Explorer 7 software.
7. Go to the http://webmail.aol.com Web site and sign in with the appropriate AOL user name and password.
IMPORTANT: For security purposes, general browsing of the Internet should not be done without Protected Mode being enabled. Once you are finished accessing the AOL Web mail site, repeat steps 1-6 to place a check back into the box next to Enable Protected Mode.
