The most common feature among Mini DV cameras is the port which you use to attach to your computer, known as a DV port (digital video) and by many other names, such as "I. Link", "FireWire" and "IEEE1394", all referring to the same technology. When you connect your camcorder to your computer, you are using this FireWire connection to stream the video and audio signals onto your hard drive. This is done by use of a Windows technology known as WDM ("Windows Driver Model"). WDM is a relatively new system meant to replace VFW ("Video for Windows"), the previous standard for importing and converting video from one source to the computer.

Unfortunately, most webcams and webcam programs need VFW to work, and FireWire uses WDM, not VFW. Windows has in its programming a facility to translate a VFW program to output WDM, but not vice versa, so when you start your webcam program, it will not recognize your miniDV camcorder, connected by FireWire.

So how can you make it work? Get an analog video capture card, examples are Matrox eTV G450, or an ATI Radeon with video capture, or Hauppage WinTV. All these cards are using VFW device to capture video and should be recognized in webcam software. Always remember that this analog video capture cards are not allowed to be advised to the customer however just remind them to look for an Analog Video Capture Card so that they can use FireWire Connection.

How and where pictures are shown determines the minimum number of megapixels needed from a digital camera. The resolution chosen is very important:

• Not enough megapixels means your pictures will appear unsharp or blurry.
• Too many megapixels means you will spend more for your camera and its memory.
• Frequently cameras with more megapixels produce images which are more noisy.

Yes we can use HDMI Cable in video transferring. The function of HDMI Cable in video transferring is the same as transferring of video using an I. Link or FireWire cable.

Kindly use these 8 easy steps in installing the USB Driver in Microsoft Vista.

1. Insert the driver software in the CD/DVD ROM Drive and close the pop up window that will appear on the monitor
2. Go to Start Menu and select Computer (My Computer).
3. Right Click on the CD/DVD ROM Drive and select Explore.
4. Look for Driver folder or Install Folder, right click on it and select on Explore and look for Install Shield Icon.
5. If you already see the Install Shield Icon, right click on it and select Properties.
6. On Properties, look and select Compatibility and run the program using the compatibility mode by selecting Windows XP Service Pack 2.
7. After selecting Windows XP Service Pack 2, click on Apply and OK then close the window.
8. Lastly, open the software and go to the Driver folder or Install Folder and double click on Install Shield Icon (for USB Driver folder) or Install Folder (for Install folder) for the USB Driver installation and follow the procedure in installation. Please restart computer after installation for better performance.

This article is about the function of Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO. (quick reference)

Aperture
refers on how much light a camera can let in at a given shutter speed. Aperture also affects the distances that appear to be in focus when a picture is taken. This is called depth of field (DOF).

Shutter Speed
Shutter speed is the duration for which a camera can record light to take a single picture. The shutter speeds of a camera are described as a range measured in seconds and fractions of a second

Note:
fast shutter - speed gives a camera the ability to capture objects in motion and good pictures in every bright light
slow shutter - gives camera the ability to capture detailed pictures in low light


ISO
defines how film sensitivities are measured
It refers to equivalent sensitivity.

Note: A higher ISO rating means more sensitivity to light but produces pictures with more noise which is similar to pattern of film grain.

Cannot Write to Writable Discs

If you are having problems in burning or writing on a disc, please check if the customer’s disc drive is actually capable of burning to the type of media that they want to use. For example, a combination DVD/CDRW drive will NOT burn DVDs. It can only be use in CD writing.

What is DPOF (Digital Print Order format)?

DPOF (Digital Print Order format) is a format which allows the user of a digital camera to define which captured images on the storage card are to be printed, together with information on the number of copies or other image information such as paper size, image title text, image orientation, contact information and more.

Using Your Camcorder as a Webcam

Camcorder that is using a tape as a recording media can be use as a web camera as long as the camcorder has this following function:

USB Streaming
Audio/ Video In (AV in)
Digital Video (DV port)

Best examples are the Sony TRV Model camcorders

Note: Problem like this will occur during computer connection:
USB streaming is active and will shut off in approximately 5 minutes
- To solve the issue, take the tape out and the unit should not be shut off and allow usage as a web camera.

Sometimes you are wondering why the videos that you recently downloaded using a digital camera or camcorder is not working properly when transferred to computer.
